8 Tips to Get Ready for Your First #commenthour
My first #commenthour was crazy! I was trying to read each post really fast, to comment on them and to give some live feedback at the same time, on Twitter. Obviously, I did not manage to do all of this for the 25 randomly picked blog!
For my second #commenthour, I had developed some sort of routine. I was following everything and it went great! And you know what; I was even featured that night!
Since then, I make some room in my schedule on Wednesday evenings and I attend every single #commenthour. I wouldn’t miss it! It’s fun, I meet new bloggers, I discover new blogs and I get new followers for my own blog.
If you’re new to #commenthour, let me give you a few tips to enjoy this first crazy hour:
- Make sure your blog is ready for comments: no Captcha and allow Name + URL comments for the evening, please!
- Since you’ll be opening several blogs at the same time in your browser, make sure your computer is ready. Close everything you won’t be using for #commenthour: Microsoft Word, MSN Messenger (you won’t have time!)…
- To begin #commenthour, you should have one tab of your browser with Twitter where you can follow the @mention, in case someone is talking to you and another tab with Tweetchat where you’ll follow #commenthour.
- When #commenthour starts, make sure you let people know that you’re there!
- Once you see the first featured blog, click on the link and open it in a new tab. You don’t have to comment the latest post, you can choose another one. Find a post where you can actually comment. Don’t just write: Great post, coming from #commenthour.
- If you really like the featured blog, retweet! That’s what you wish people would do for your blog, right?
- You can always give some live feedback to the bloggers. #Commenthour is all about interacting with each other!
- You won’t be able to read all the 25 posts in 1 hour. Make sure you open each of them in a tab and comment on them later!
I guess you’re now ready for your first #commenthour! Don’t forget to have fun!

I was just yesterday wondering if a post such as this existed. My first #commenthour was exhilarating, but I was also a bit disoriented. Things move fast!
On my wordpress blog, I decided to remove “comment awaiting moderation,” and I just got a really good spam-blocking plug-in instead. (Each morning I check my comments section to see if there’s anything unsightly, but that almost never happens — the plug-in I installed works great!)
Frankly, I was really touched by most of the blogs I read that first night. Many are from stay-at-home moms or other pros who work from home — many posts had an everyday-confessional
quality that was sincere and universal. What a supportive group of folks!

I would be interested in hearing what spam plugin you are using? Is it akismet or something else?
